Marion Biermans’ research focuses on the prevention of vascular damage in primary care. Her research interests are in common risk factors for cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease and diabetes mellitus in general practice. As head of the research program Vascular Damage within the Department of Primary and Community Care, she is project leader of several studies in the field of vascular damage. She is a senior epidemiologist and specialized in the use of primary care routine data. This relates to her PhD thesis (2009) on epidemiologic surveillance based on electronic medical records in general practice. During 2009-2015, she was head of the section “Methodology, Information Management & Statistics” at the Department of Primary and Community Care. Marion Biermans is also a psychologist and works as a behavioral scientist at the Postgraduate Training in General Practice (VOHA) where she coaches general practitioners in training and coordinates the Evidence Based Medicine curriculum.
