Profile

Alina Vrieling's research interests are in the role of dietary and other lifestyle factors in cancer risk, recurrence and survival. During her PhD at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, she studied the effect of lycopene and isoflavone supplementation on the circulating Insulin-like Growth Factor system in people at increased risk for breast and colorectal cancer. Subsequently, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow for the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). She spent three years at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, where she studied the association of dietary factors with prognosis in a large cohort of breast cancer patients. Currently, her major focus is on urological cancers. She is setting up a large cohort study to investigate the association of dietary and other lifestyle factors with bladder cancer recurrence and progression. She is also conducting a historical cohort study to examine the relation between body composition and renal cell cancer prognosis.
