Where and when were you born?
I was born on December 3rd, 1974 in Eindhoven and grew up in Valkenswaard. In 1993 I went to Nijmegen for my studies and never left the city.
Where do you live and with whom?
Together with my wife Mariëlle and two children Maud (3 years) and Daan (1 year) we live between the city centre of Nijmegen and the Radboudumc.
Who was your role model when you were a kid?
I didn’t have a pure role model as a kid, but the person I admired was Richard Branson. He is an English business magnate, investor, philanthropist and founded the Virgin Group. A nice quote of him is: ‘My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable challenges and trying to rise above them ... from the perspective of wanting to live life to the full, I felt that I had to attempt it’.
Why aren’t you doing the same thing now as your role model (or do you?)
I’m trying hard…unfortunately till now I did not succeed to start my own ‘Radboudumc-airline’ company.
What is the thing in your (work or other) history that you are most proud of?
From private point of view, I’m really proud of my beautiful children! And in my work I’m proud of the new clinical research line (Nijmegen Tooth Wear Project), focussing on the diagnosis, aetiology and treatment of severe tooth wear using innovative 3D-CAD CAM techniques.
What is it that you would like to achieve in work in the next 5 to 10 years?
To further expand and create a unique centre in the Netherlands in which patients with functional and esthetical problems related to severe tooth wear are treated in a multidisciplinary team (e.g. Dentistry, Otorhinolaryngology and Gastroenterology).
For what can we wake you up?
A good glass of wine and a great talk with friends.
What is your hobby and how good are you at it?
What is your biggest irritation?
People who are unreliable, not straightforward and have a negative attitude.
Who would you like to invite for dinner, if you had the chance?
