On Wednesday September 7th, Jakko van Ingen (Medical Microbiology) was presented a European Respiratory Society (ERS) Research Award. He receives this award for his contribution both as a clinician and as a scientist, to improving diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria. These infections are emerging in many countries including the Netherlands and affect patients with structural lung damage (e.g. in COPD) and the immunocompromised. The Award was presented during the European Respiratory Society congress in London, the biggest pulmonary disease conference in the world. With the Award comes a 10,000 euro grant to continue his research.
