Using a smart-patch for early detection of hypoglycaemic events is the goal. Last Monday the Dutch Diabetes Foundation announced the prize winners of the ‘Best Diabetes Idea’ of which the Radboudumc is one. The prize of 50.000 euros will be used to develop the ‘Hypo Patch’ warning system. With the help of accurate measurement of the heart rate and information in the variability, early detection of upcoming hypoglycaemia can warn the user. This person then has time to react and prevent episodes of dizziness, confusion or worse. Knowledge and experience with wearable technology of Radboudumc's REshape Center for Innovation will support Internist Bastiaan Galan in this quest. (Second from left in photo)
