Recently, Rebecca Verheggen, PhD candidate at the Department of Physiology and resident in Internal Medicine received the Christine Mohrman Stipendium.
During her PhD trajectory, Rebecca Verheggen investigates the benefits of exercise training in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. Changes in these tissues are believed to cause a reduction in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus in obese humans, which is observed after exercise training.
Rebecca Verheggen will use the Christine Mohrmann Stipendium to visit Oxford University, UK, where she will learn new laboratory techniques to further elucidate beneficial mechanisms in these tissues.
