For many years, Gerhard Zielhuis (Department of Health Evidence) has committed himself to research, education, and patient care at Radboud university medical center and to the development of Epidemiology in the Netherlands. He was one of the founders of the study of General Medicine, the precursor to Biomedical Sciences.
Zielhuis was the impetus behind the Parelsnoer (Pearl Necklace), an initiative for the development of biobanks in which hospitals collect clinical data for specific patient groups. Over the past few years, Professor Zielhuis has distinguished himself as a scientific researcher, lecturer, and director at an extraordinary level. One of several ways he showed this was as the Director of Research at Radboud university medical center (2006 to 2009), where he played a significant role in research structuring at the institutes.
