This personal grant from the Dutch Heart Foundation allows Thijs to start his own research group and to conduct the SIT LESS study (Sitting Interruption Treatment as a noveL eHealth Secondary prevention Strategy).
SIT LESS introduces a novel strategy to improve cardiovascular health in CVD patients, via reductions in sitting time as this type of sedentary behaviour is highly prevalent and is strongly associated with adverse health outcomes. For this purpose, physiological and epidemiological studies will be performed to develop a tailored program to the needs of CVD patients. Subsequently, a RCT will be performed to evaluate the short- and long-term health benefits of the integration of SIT LESS to existing cardiac rehab programs.
